Thanks Dave for letting me know about the smell, I can save my power. I'll bet though that some day my daughter in law will walk in and say what's that smell. I call her super nose!
Does anyone know is it best to keep it out of the light or not? Don

My Sauerkraut Started
I was inspired by some members to make my own sauerkraut. I ordered a gallon jar with an air lock. It came this morning so I went to the grocery and bought two heads of cabbage to get a batch started. I used a head and about a third of the second one. I got it sliced and in the jar, salted and stomp...

Charlie, the smoke flavor is slight but there. I used some mixed hardwood blend of pellets. Not sure if the peeled ones or unpeeled ones take on more smoke, only my second try at it. With this I didn't use my Amazen tube and think I had more smoke taste when I did on the first batch. Everyone that h...

Sorry I guess I will stick to posting homemade foods. My butcher is 3rd generation German family owned and uses only minimum ingredients as you would in homemade sausage. It is not typical grocery store sausage. He is only a two minute drive away so very convenient. Besides his fresh stuffed sausage...

New Years Day Pork and Sauerkraut
Jan 01 2013 New Years 2013 and I will eat my good luck dinner of pork and kraut. I first started this tradition one New Year`s Day over 20 years ago, I don`t remember exactly when. I ran into a friend at the grocery and he had a can of sauerkraut and some pork. I ask is that all you`re buying and he...

Is pickled pork available in markets up Ohio way? I remember having pickled pork products available in ethnic bars in upstate New York, but sadly we don't have much of that around here. Any suggestions as to what I might use? That looks like an interesting variation on our usual Louisiana red beans...
