I was trying to find definition of wood species in Zambia suitable for meat smoking. I am pretty sure that you can't find hickory growing wild there. ;)

I am reminder of the late vegetarian and naturalist, Ewell Gibbons, who sold out to the manufacturers of Post "Grape Nuts" cereal back in the '60s. He said it reminded him of wild hickory nuts.

Maybe there is some other tree whose wood can provide a similar odor and smoke taste. Any ideas...? ...maybe Post Grape Nuts? :lol: (For those in the southern US, wouldn't it be wonderful if kudzu was the answer?)

I am sure that there are citrus trees in southern Africa. Probably something akin to oak.
