Thanks Ross,

According to that website I'm looking at about R2.5 as it's plywood only. I thought about insulation but at the time the smoker was built it was going to be cold smoking anyway and all I was really looking at was containing the smoke.

Nope, just like wood I can be a little dense. I just used the listed rating on the grid for the R value of plywood.

Ok. It is easy. determine the inside surface area of the smoker in square feet and multiply by the temperature rise you want and divide by the "R" value. that should give the the total BTU value you need . !000 watts equals 3300 BTU's.
