Vegan sausage casings wanted Australia

Post by caterpillar » Mon Jan 23, 2017 23:59

I live in Adelaide South Australia. Am reading The Art of Making Vegetarian Sausages by Stanley and Adam Marianski. Would like to buy some vegan sausage casings but can only find overseas sources (USA and UK). Long term plan is wholesale but happy to start with small quantity as I practice. Would like to see a vego option standard at sausage sizzles and in Australia Day lamb ads :) Cheers Michelle

Hi Michelle and welcome to the forum. Hopefully one of our Australian members will be able to steer you in the right direction. I have seen vegan casings sold in the the US, but not in Canada, so they still are not that common. In the meantime, if you haven't done so already, read the thread about Australian sausage making sources and then contact some of them about importing vegan casings to Australia, I'm sure there is a market for them.

You could also contact a manufacturer directly and order from them. here is one in Japan:

Hi Redzed....I'm learning how to navigate this forum so hopefully this reply works! :) Thanks for the links and suggestions. I'll get into research mode plus I might start with the UK vegan casings as they have them in smaller batches http://www.sausagemaking.org/acatalog/V ... sing_.html. If they work well then I like your idea of finding an Australian company to import them.
Cheers Michelle

Hi Caterpillar, and Welcome.

Best service, and a rapidly growing business with a strong on-line presence is My Slice of Life. They would probably look at importing or sourcing what you require.
I am base on the Gold Coast, they are in Melbourne, but I get my deliveries max 48 hrs, but has been less than 20 hours after the order was placed! I get the majority of my Stock from these Guy's. Well priced

Another Company to try, and these Guys are in Aus and New Zealand, is The Casing Boutique ( www.thecasingboutique.com). They sourced pig bladders for me when I was searching to make my Culatello. More expensive, but quality product. I only buy my casings from them now, and that is all they specialise in, so could be worth investigating.

Smoked and Cured is a recently purchased web based company. they certainly have a variety, but are a bit more expensive. I had a few problems with the previous Owners, who i think ran the business down. My last purchase was from the New Owners, however - tho it appeared to be Australia Post, the delivery was some 2 weeks....

Please let me know ( PM me) if I can be of any assistance.

Regards,

Tony
