Salinometers

Post by Bubba » Wed Sep 07, 2011 01:34

I have been looking at buying a Salinometer, and found this one on line:-

Salinometer

Has anyone bought one of these and have some info on how well (or accurately) they work?

Alternatively, could anyone please recommend a good one?

Any information would be appreciated.

Regards

I bought mine here: http://www.alliedkenco.com/369.aspx
They are basic hydrometers calibrated in percent of saturation of NaCl brines. Drop it in pure water and it should read zero and in a saturated solution it should read 100. I think that I remember that a brine is saturated at about 26 percent salt but that is subject to cinfirmation.

Thank you Ross,

I have ordered one from them tonight, this is of course my next step to prepare for brining and smoking some Turkey meat.
