My Brother of Frankenstein

Post by Kijek » Fri Jan 19, 2018 21:41

Well here's a shot of my chamber aka (Brother of Frankenstein)

What you don't see is the heating pad and De-humdifier inside unit.

Two INKBIRD CONTROLLERS (1) for temperatures and (1) for Humdity

The Inkbird left controls Refrigerator & Heating Pad. set @ 48*F

Inkbird right controls Humidifier & De-Humidifier set @ 80%

Oh I also have a mini computer fan inside on a timer that circulates air for 1 minute every 6 hours.

Not yet, but I do open the door quickly twice a day for fresh air, do you think that's ok?

Drier vents, double layer of bug screen on inside and outside of exhaust and intake for a total of 4 layers per vent. Exhaust fan on automatic timer, runs for 10 minutes, twice a day. I leave for 3-4 day hunting trips regularly, and not having to worry about my curing chanber while I`m gone is HUGE. So I`ve built mine to be as self reliant as possible.

Yes I see what your saying and I agree with you, especially when you go away.

I love your setup, very nice job, I'm hoping to do a chamber like that one.

Did buy that cooler used or did you get very lucky?

Yeah those coolers for free are almost nonexistent, I'm forever checking Craig's List, who knows may I will get lucky and get one at a steal.

I have to make a confession, about a year and a half ago I sold a nice running commercial grade "FREEZER" to a friend.
Now here getting into chamber making and I am kicking myself in the butt for getting rid of that baby, it was big in size, a perfect unit with lots of room.

What a dummy I am (for lack of a better word)

Next time you are at a local grocery store, or corner market / liquor store and see a refrigerator repair guy working on the stores commercial fridge, start up a conversation with him and tell him what your looking for. They usually know where you can find one. Finding a commercial fridge in great running condition is tough though. They are used hard with very little maintenance. I purchased mine very cheap, but it had a funny noise coming from compressor every time it turned on, although cooled quickly and worked great. I did not want to chance losing a big batch of meat due to a compressor failure due to 95% or my dry sausages are wild meat of some sort and not easily replaced. So I chose to spend the money, and purchased a new compressor and receiver/drier. The fridge now runs brand new and I don`t have to worry about it, although not a cheap repair

I can only imagine the repair costs.

You just set off a little light bulb in my head
I have an old friend who is a refrigerator repair man, for commercial establishments.

My mind is shot these, I do the dumbest things, like not thinking. :???:

Oh wow I'm liking this using your brain thing, just another idea.
My son is a police officer, maybe I can tell him to keep his eyes open and/or if he knows someone, he can use his police influences and get me something cheap.
